5 Quick tips as you start to train for a race

Fargoans Josh Thomas and Erin Mayer are in week #2 of training to run the half-marathon and 10K races respectively at the Fargo Marathon. Fargo Marathon founder and director Mark Knutson is working as their trainer. Here are 5 quick tips from Knutson if you’re starting to train for any of the Fargo Marathon races.

When training for a race, try to run 4-5 times a week.

Rest is an important part of the plan. If you’re hurt, take a day off.

On non-running days, try cross training.

Cross training includes: biking, swimming, yoga, or even walking the dog.

If you can’t carry on a conversation while running, you’re running too fast.
